Introduction
When I see a compact hybrid, I generally know what I’m going to get: modest forgiveness, neutral ball flight, and good-not-great distance. The PXG 0311 GEN6 hybrid turns all that on its ear by offering excellent forgiveness and distance plus the ability to turn this club into whatever you need.
Looks
The PXG 0311 GEN6 hybrid is a compact, players hybrid. The heel is shaved just slightly to give it a touch of asymmetry. Comparing the 0311 GEN6 hybrid to the 0311 XF GEN6 hybrid, the 0311 is smaller from both front-to-back and heel-to-toe. The difference isn’t night and day, but it’s noticeable when they’re side by side.
One obvious change from GEN5 is the crown. GEN5 used a silver AV carbon fiber which gave the club a very non-traditional look. With GEN6, PXG opted for a matte black carbon fiber for a more stealthy appearance.
The sole of the 0311 GEN6 hybrid is classic PXG. Two silver bars separate the three weights on the sole. “PXG” and “0311” are set toward the leading edge, giving the club an overall clean, uncluttered look.
Sound & Feel
The sound and feel of the PXG 0311 GEN6 hybrid is identical to the 0311 XF GEN6 hybrid. Quality strikes are rewarded with a feel that’s explosive and strong. If you don’t like the thin feel of some hybrids, you’ll like the 0311 GEN6 a lot. This club also provides clear feedback as the feel gets duller the further you get from center.
Each quality strike produces a mid-pitched “snap” with medium volume. Thin shots create a different, unpleasant sound, but all other misses produce a duller snap, adding to the feedback you get through your hands.
Performance
If you read my review of the 0311 XF GEN6 hybrid [find it HERE], you know that the PXG 0311 GEN6 hybrid almost ended up in my bag. It was, in fact, the only tough decision in my entire fitting. Like many of its predecessors, this club showcases how adept PXG is at designing superb hybrids.
Given its compact size, it would be easy to raise an eyebrow when PXG says that the 0311 GEN6 hybrid is for “Everyone,” but they’ve packed unbelievable amounts of forgiveness into a small package. In fact, PXG shrunk the dispersion by almost 1/3 compared to GEN5. That improvement comes from making the club straighter and upgrading the distance consistency.
PXG also squeezed a little more distance from the 0311 GEN6 hybrid through a combination of improved ball speed, lower launch, and lower spin. The changes in launch and spin are small – 0.6 degrees and 150 RPM – but they produced an extra three yards of carry.
Beyond the excellent distance and forgiveness, what sets the PXG 0311 GEN6 hybrid apart is the adjustability. The hosel is adjustable, offering eight different loft and lie angle combinations. There are also three weight ports in the sole. PXG offers weights ranging from 5 to 20 grams in 2.5 gram increments. This allows you to make this club ultra forgiving, lower spin, draw biased, or fade biased. I can’t think of another hybrid that gives golfers this level of flexibility.
Conclusion
The PXG 0311 GEN6 deserves its place on the company’s long list of excellent hybrids. It gives you far more forgiveness than you could expect at this size, plus very strong distance. Most importantly, it has the ability to tune its performance to whatever you need in terms of spin, ball flight, and stability.

I want to start getting more PXG in the bag. I’m turning into a hybrid guy as I get older. This might be a good place to start!
Just got the 3H and am really excited to put it in play. I never thought I would game a hybrid, but it was very consistent during my fitting, easy to get airborne, and looked a lot more friendly for off-the-deck shots than any fairway wood I’ve tried before. The compact head looks really nice at address, with no perceivable offset.
If you are more of a hitter vs a sweeper, would this hybrid be better vs the XF?
As always, it depends on the individual. A club with a wider sole is often more resistant to digging, which can benefit the steeper swinger.
