North Berwick, Scotland – Robert MacIntyre has won the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open. This is his second PGA Tour win of the season. This win also makes him only the second Scottish player in the modern era to have multiple PGA Tour wins in a single season since Sandy Lyle back in 1988.
MacIntyre had gone on the record saying that more than any other tournament, he wanted to win this, his national open. His obvious passion buoyed his stellar play as he scored eagle, par, and birdie on his final three holes. Finishing with a score of 18-under par, he also earned $1.575 million in prize money. While last year his most memorable shot was a fairway wood on the last hole, this year, his putter was undoubtedly the hottest club in his bag with multiple made putts from length helping to seal the deal on his victory.
The title was ultimately snatched from the grasp of Adam Scott who would finish in second place at 17-under par. While the fourth-ranked player in the world, Ludvig Aberg had the lead to start the day, he faltered and would finish in a tie for fourth place. Others in that same tie at 14-under par included stars like last year’s winner, Rory McIlroy as well as Sungjae Im, Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, and Aaron Rai.
While this tournament is a huge deal in its own right, for many, the Genesis Scottish Open serves as preparation for The Open next week. Butch Harman will look to defend that title and become the champion golfer of the year for the second year in a row. Unfortunately for him, The Open has one of the strongest fields of any golf tournament in the year as the fourth and final major. The tournament will be headlined by the other major winners of the year: Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Bryson DeChambeau.
