The 2024 Wyndham Championship Recap

Greensboro, NC – Aaron Rai has won the 2024 Wyndham Championship. With a bogey-free final round of 64 and score of 18-under par, Rai has won his first PGA Tour victory. That win has earned him over $1.4 million in prize money and has finalized his position in the playoffs.

Rai, a golfer originally from England, is known for wearing two rain gloves, and he needed them given how wet the course was. It was a golf marathon on the final day of tournament play at the Wyndham, because weather delays caused part of round two, and all of the third and fourth rounds to be played today. The course received over six inches of rain, contributing to a slow, long day and lift clean, and place conditions.

Max Greyserman, a PGA Tour rookie, looked to be the presumptive winner after holing out for eagle on the 13th hole. However, he would go on to card a quadruple bogey and a double on his way in. He would ultimately card a 69, finishing in solo second with a score of 16-under par.

Greyserman wasn’t the only one to falter down the stretch though. The 36-hole leader Matt Kuchar had been on a historic run of FedEx Cup Playoff appearances. He had never missed a single one since their inception in 2007. Had he won this week, he would have appeared in 17 straight playoffs. Officially, Kuchar is the only player who didn’t finish today, as he elected to mark his ball and finish tomorrow due to darkness. With just the final hole to play, he’s in a tie for 12th.

Next week the PGA Tour begins the FedEx Cup playoffs in Memphis, Tennessee. Last year at TPC Southwind, Lucas Glover won both the Wyndham and FedEx St. Jude Championships in back-to-back fashion. However, this year he narrowly missed out on qualifying for the playoffs. Instead, it will be the top 70 points-scorers vying for the win and progressing to the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship after that.
