The 2024 BMW Championship Recap

Castle Rock, Colorado – Keegan Bradley breaks through for his first victory of 2024 to extend his playoff season one more week.  Keegan had one other close call this year losing in a playoff to the ultimate wnner Grayson Murray at the Sony Open.  While that win would’ve garnered Keegan more points, there is not a more clutch win than this one.

This is the playoffs.  Each week that passes, the field gets smaller and smaller until only the top 30 players remain at the Tour Championship at East Lake.  This week’s event at Castle Pines Golf Club in Colorado hosted the top 50 players with obvious implications for who gets to advance next week to Atlanta.

The week started off with excitement knowing that the significant Colorado elevation would allow the golf ball to fly quite a bit further than normal but despite the added distance, the scores were quite tame.  Round one yielded one round of 66 with a pair 63’s in round two.  For the weekend, the average scores certainly went up, especially among the leaders.

Coming down the stretch in the final round, Sunday’s low round was posted by Sam Burns with an almost hole out birdie that would have tied Keegan Bradley and ultimately forced a playoff.  This finish got him into the top 10 going to Atlanta.  The former Masters winner and oldest player in field Adam Scott also gave himself a chance at winning by birdieing both 14 and 17 but his good finish got him inside the top 30 after vaulting 27 spots.

Two time major winner Justin Thomas barely kept himself inside the top 30 bubble and a spot in next week’s Tour Championship despite a tie for 39th at the BMW this week.  FedEx Cup leader Scottie Scheffler also had a bit of a rough week, finishing in tie for 33rd place.

This week was ultimately Keegan Bradley’s consistent play.  Keegan posted the low round on Thursday but stayed consistent in his approach and ultimately managed an even par 72 in his final round to secure the victory.  This is Keegan’s first victory since his win back at the Traveler’s Championship in Connecticut ahead of the Ryder Cup snub in 2023.  The most important part of this victory is that he is now fourth in the FedEx Cup standings.

As I mentioned, next week, the PGA Tour ends the season long race to the FedEx Cup in Atlanta at the newly restored East Lake Golf Club.  Scottie Scheffler is the leader.
