Training Aids That Work: Tour Striker Educator

Tour Striker Educator (5)

Introduction

Though it’s not nearly as well-known as its big brother, the Tour Striker, the Educator may be Martin Chuck’s greatest gift to golf instructors.  This simple training aid is endlessly versatile: it works with any club in your bag and can be used to fix virtually any problem.  It’s something that I use regularly in my teaching and that I have recommended to numerous students.  Bottom line: the Tour Striker Educator is a training aid that works.

How Does It Work

Insert the Educator’s curved metal piece through your club’s grip and position the plastic arm to suit the drill that you want to do.  The Educator is simply there to provide extra feedback.  For example, many players are very wristy putters, but they don’t know it.  You can set up the Educator to bump into your forearm when your wrists break down, giving you the additional feedback you need.

Why the Tour Striker Educator is Plugged In Golf Approved

The Educator checks all the boxes for me: it’s inexpensive ($35), it’s small and easy to keep in your bag, it’s effective, and it’s very versatile.

Martin Chuck includes a booklet of drills that you can do with the Educator, but, for me, the fun is in discovering novel ways to use it.  I’ve come up with a list of favorite drills for the Educator, and I’ve also had students create their own drills.

Another thing that my student’s appreciate is that using it doesn’t require a lot of set up time nor does it draw unwanted attention to the user.  Using the Educator is very discrete, which can be important when you have a range full of wannabe golf pros who want to “fix your swing.”

  5. Hi looking at your video of the tour striker educator I just wonder if the snap attachment would fit any golf grip size?

    • Matt Saternus

      Luc,

I had no problem getting it onto a midsize grip. I’m not sure how it would work on a jumbo.

      Best,

      Matt

Will the Tour Striker Educator work with my oversize grips?

    • Matt Saternus

      Tom,

I had no problem getting the Educator to snap onto my midsize grips. With an oversize grip, you may not be able to get the cap to snap on, but the rod will still insert through the hole in the grip. I don’t think the cap is 100% necessary since the Educator isn’t subject to any big forces during the swing.

      Best,

      Matt

  7. How can this device help me with sand shots?

    • Matt Saternus

      Bob,

I don’t think this would be my go to for bunker shots, but it could be useful in teaching you to maintain an open face and use the bounce of the club.

      Best,

      Matt
