8 Upcoming Golf Tournaments

8 Upcoming Golf Tournaments

The end of the year will be filled with exciting golf tournaments and a chance to see some of the best players showcase their skills.  Not all of the tournaments ahead are Grand Slams, but for a while now, there have been many great events outside of the slams.

In this article, we’ll outline some of the tournaments to watch out for.  The crypto betting sites that provide odds for these events have already come up with favorites based on past performance, so we’ll also provide our picks for those most likely to win.

Presidents Cup (September 26-29, 2024)

President Cups is a biannual golfing event started in 1994.  It’s a tournament between the US players and the rest of the world except Europe.  It was a way for the players who can’t play at the Ryder Cup to get their chance to shine.

The tournament is charitable, and the prize pool isn’t distributed amongst the players but goes to charities of their choice.  Over the years, the US team has become a favorite, and it’s defending the title earned last year.  With stars like Jordan Spieth and Patrick Cantlay, the US team is the favorite to keep the title.

BMW PGA Championship (September 19-22, 2024)

BMW PGA Championship is one of the oldest and most prestigious DP World Tour tournaments.  It was established in 1955, and the winners of this tournament usually end up being some of the best players in the world.

The anonymous gambling sites have declared Rory McIlroy a strong favorite for the BMW PGA Championship.  These sites allow the players to wager without providing their personal information since they rely on crypto payments.  Based on the popular settlement and previous wins, such as the ones at European events– McIlroy seems to be an easy pick.

DP World Tour Championship (November 14-17, 2024)

DP World Tour doesn’t have as long a tradition – it was started in 2009, but it quickly became one of the most interesting events of the year as a conclusion to the DP World Tour.  It’s played at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, and it determines the winner of the Dubai Race.

Given how he performed in Dubai so far, Jon Rahm is a strong favorite to win the DP World Tour.  Rahm’s breakthrough in major championships came in 2021 when he won the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, but he’s most well-known for his performance at Jumeirah Golf Estates – where he also won in 2017 and 2019.

Solheim Cup (September 13-15, 2024)

Solheim Cup is the premier team competition in women’s golf.  It was established in 1990 and features teams from the US and Europe.  It’s modeled after the Ryder Cup.  The tournament has played a big role in putting women’s golf front and center, and it’s become known for its intense rivalry between the teams.

Team Europe is a strong favorite to win this year because of its great lineup.  Players such as Celine Boutier and Leona Maguire will give it an edge over Team US, and most gambling sites reflect those odds.

Open de España (September 26-29, 2024)

The Open de España is one of the oldest golf tournaments in Europe, with its inaugural event held in 1912.  Now a part of the DP World Tour, the tournament has seen its share of stars of the years.  It’s also a key event in European golf and a chance to showcase Spanish talent, which is considerable.

Adrián Otaegui is a local favorite. His recent strong performance and the advantage of the home court puts him at an advantage to win.  Otaegui already has a 2018 Belgian Knockout and the 2020 Scottish Championship victories.

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship October 3-6, 2024)

Alfred Dunhill Championship is unlike any other event on our list because it features both professional and amateur golf players, often celebrities known as golf fans.  It’s played across three historic Scottish courses—St Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns.  The tournament was created in 2001 and has been a fan favorite ever since.

The three rotating courses are its most distinct feature, and Carnoustie is especially well-known as one of the most difficult golf courses in the world.  This year, according to most gambling sites, Tommy Fleetwood is a top pick for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Abu Dhabi Championship (November 7-10, 2024)

The Abu Dhabi Championship is part of the DP World Tour’s Rolex Series.  It was established in 2006 and quickly became the equivalent of a European Tour for the Middle East.  The tournament is often seen as the event that sets the scene for the next year’s events, and players who stand out in it end up becoming favorites for the whole World Tour.  It’s also known for a rather large prize pool.

Rory McIlroy is also a favorite for the Abu Dhabi Championship, another event where he has previously excelled.  He’s been known to start strong in Abu Dhabi and continue the season similarly.

Hero World Challenge (December 4-8, 2024)

Hero World Challenge is an exclusive invitational tournament hosted by Tiger Woods.  The tournament started in 1999 and has always featured a small group of elite players.  It doesn’t offer FedEx Cup points, but it still has a prestige spot in the field due to who’s running it.

Tiger Woods is a favorite to win a tournament he’s hosting, but it’s not yet sure if he’ll be able to play due to health reasons.  Collin Morikawa or Viktor Hovland could be favorites if Woods isn’t available, given their strong finishes in 2023.

There are a lot of great tournaments left for the end of 2024.  Most of these already have clear favorites, and that’s noticeable with the odds set up by gambling sites.  Some of the tournaments will affect the player’s rating, and others are just played for prestige.
