adidas CODECHAOS 22 Golf Shoe Review

50 Words or Less

The adidas CODECHAOS 22 golf shoe is super comfortable and offers excellent traction.  A great fusion of stability and mobility.  Eye catching modern athletic look.

Introduction

I’ve been a big fan of the adidas CODECHAOS spikeless golf shoes ever since I slipped on my first pair in 2020.  My multiple pairs [reviews HERE] always receive serious consideration each time I head out to play or practice.  So when the first images of the CODECHAOS 22 emerged this summer, I was hopeful that the new model would still embrace all the qualities I’ve come to appreciate: comfort and traction, plus the balance of mobility and stability.  Needless to say, I jumped at the opportunity to give them a thorough assessment.

Looks

You’ll see two of the six colorways offered by adidas in the accompanying photos:  Cloud White/Silver Metallic and Cloud White/Core Black.  What I like about these two pairs of shoes is the contrast in styles they project.  Both convey the distinctive, modern athletic look of the CODECHAOS franchise, but the Cloud White/Silver Metallic version feels somewhat toned down.  With their “beam yellow” outsoles and matching contrast stitching, the Cloud White/Core Black have a bold, eye catching look.

With the 22 version, adidas amplified the iconic wraparound outsole design elements.  The single Twist Grip wrap at the ball of the foot has been replaced by three larger segments.  And, at the heel, the plain overlay now includes more coverage and the traction elements.  Beyond just looking groovy, all combine to make a statement of “serious traction.”

Comfort

The adidas CODECHAOS 22 were easy to slip on thanks to a wide tongue and high heel tab.  My feet immediately enjoyed the inviting cushioning of the insole.  The lacing pattern allowed me to precisely snug up the fit.  The toe box offered a little wiggle room without sacrificing a cozy fit.

Walking in the shoes I immediately noted a slightly higher arch than in previous generations.  Besides being supportive, the arch seemed to assist in positioning my weight towards the outside of my heels in my golf stance.

The shoes flowed naturally while walking.  I love the responsive bounce the full-length BOOST midsoles provide.  I’ll get into the performance specifics in the next section, but it’s worth noting here that throughout a day on the golf course – walking, squatting to read a putt or swinging a driver for distances beyond reality – the CODECHAOS 22 exudes comfort.

Performance

I mentioned the additional Twist Grip elements on the sides of the CODECHAOS 22 in the Looks section above, but adidas also added more across the heel and toe of the sole.  I didn’t notice any enhanced traction compared to the previous models during routine golf shots, but I did encounter a situation where the wraparound grip paid dividends.  My approach shot had just missed the green and finished in a small greenside pot bunker.  The lie looked great on the flat sand, but my stance required a wide squat on the steep grass banks – very Dye-abolical.  I ended up 5 feet from the pin, proud of my results, and thankful for the sidewall Twist Grips.

I was surprised not to find the torsion X stability bar in the CODECHAOS 22, but I applaud adidas for the new design – the differences are subtle but effective.  There’s now more midfoot torsional flex, which enhances transitional footwork.   And as a side bonus – literally – the enhanced wraparound segments also augment lateral stability.

The uppers, which are made from a minimum of 50% recycled content, have a waterproof coating that had raindrops rolling off the shoes.  The material was also easy to clean – an important feature for the white colorway.  And although there are a lot of traction elements, they don’t seem to retain dirt, grass or leaves.  A few stomps on the ground, and I’m ready for the clubhouse.

Conclusion

The CODECHAOS 22 are another wonderful iteration of adidas’ flagship spikeless golf shoe.  They turned up the volume on the style, but there’s also function in the form.   Comfort is simply excellent.  I haven’t encountered a spikeless golf shoe with better traction.

  1. I was never impressed with the previous Code Chaos, however the current ’22 models are outstanding and I picked up 4 pairs this year. They fit my foot great, no slippage on wet ground and nothing beats the comfort. If you’re looking for a lockdown shoe, I suggest getting the Boa version. They’re so good, I have all 3 colorways!

I have two of the 2020 models and have enjoyed them. However, I recently bought the new echo biom c4s and i have to say they are the best spike less shoes I’ve ever worn
incredible support in comfort with excellent traction. It might be worth comparing the two models.

  3. I have a previous generation shoe that is still my favorite. Almost certain to buy more.

  4. Just got my first pair of codechaos 22 fit is great can’t wait to use them on course.

I have been a previous ambassador of Adidas golf, as I manage a golf shop out in Spain.
I have 2 pair of the original Code Chaos & just recently purchased the new 2022 model in white.
I have to say they are the most comfortable golf shoe I have ever worn.
Need to get more colours now thou 🙈😜👍

  6. Purchased Men’s Adidas CODECHAOS Golf Shoes model: GW5995. It looks good on the outside, but the sole of the right shoe has an internal defect and causes ankle pain. I wore it several times to get used to it, but no result, just pain. Such a terrible problem from such a famous brand is unimaginable.

  7. It is very comfortable shoes ,except under the insole.
Looks like everything stuck into the material of under the insole.
